By knowing the causes of high blood pressure we can discover how to defeat it. This is especially important because this condition actually kills millions of people all over the world every year. In this article, I’ll take a look at the major causes of hypertension.
Salt Intake
This is a biggie. The more salt in your diet then the more likely you are to have hypertension. Please look at what you eat and either add less salt yourself or eat less prepared food (often loaded with salt, at your expense) or both.
Age
Sadly, as you age your arteries narrow and your kidneys no longer work as well as they used to. So you will naturally get higher blood pressure. You cannot reverse the signs of ageing but you can try to keep your body in the best possible shape through a good diet and regular exercise.
Genetics
There are a number of genes implicated in high blood pressure and genetics plays some part in around 30% of all cases. I said “some part” and not “the whole part”. So whoever you are, lifestyle changes and natural methods can make a big difference and you do not necessarily need to turn to drugs.
Sleep Apnea
Maybe 3% of all people have this problem where they have frequent periods of obstructed breathing as they sleep. This is more likely to be the case if they are overweight due to excess fatty tissue in the neck and throat area.
Unfortunately, in about half of these people this will cause high blood pressure. Losing weight or using a special apparatus can solve this problem.
Obesity
Excess weight or obesity is strongly linked to high blood pressure. Doctors think that most people with this condition have it due to excess weight. When you visualize the kidneys being compressed and complications like sleep apnea then it is not difficult to see why this is the case.
