Most people who get hypertension will visit their doctor who will put them onto high blood pressure drugs. So what can you expect if you take them and is there any credible alternative? Let’s take a closer look.
The Range Of Drugs
There are four classes of drugs that are normally given, also known as “ABCD”.
These are ACE inhibitors, beta blockers, calcium channel blockers and diuretics. Side effects are rarely life threatening but are commonly irritating.
Side Effects
For example, diuretics can make you feel weak and tired and even cause gout.
Beta blockers can cause insomnia and cold hands. In the UK, they are banned for treating high blood pressure because they can cause Type II diabetes.
Calcium channel blockers typically cause constipation and headache.
Finally, ACE inhibitors are well known for the persistent dry cough that they cause.
How To Minimize Them?
Your doctor will try varying pairs of “ABCD” as well as different brands in an effort to minimize the side effects. But ultimately the side effects will still be common and can never be gotten rid of.
The best way to minimize them is to simply not take drugs.
Natural Methods
Ultimately, the only people who need drugs are those who have extremely high blood pressure and are in danger of dying within months if they don’t get their b.p. back under control quickly.
For everyone else, it is far better to lower it through lifestyle i.e. your diet, your stress and a few other factors. It is much easier than you may think – for example, a couple of the right supplements may be all that is required to get you back into the healthy zone.
